Christmas Tree Hand Pies

I bought premade pie crusts,  knowing I'd find some use for them this holiday season.  I knew handpies would be a hit with our children. But I wasn't sure if it should be savory or sweet.  A Christmas Tree treat with sprinkles matches our Advent Calendar themes of Garland & Tinsel,  and O Tannenbaum. We also had blueberry maple sausages, which could be cut to look like the tree trunk. So I opted for sweet! In the end, this took little effort for a brilliant breakfast.

Makes 12 Hand Pies

Ingredients

4 Round Pie Crusts, uncooked

1 Can Pie Filling, any flavor

1 Egg w 1 Tbsp Water

Sanding Sugar,  green and other optional

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. About 4 pies fit on a sheet.

2. One at a time,  lay out a pie crust and cut evenly into 6 triangles/wedges.

3. Whisk egg with 1 Tbsp water. Take 1 triangle, and brush edge with egg wash.

4. Add 2 Tbsp pie filling in middle. Cover with another crust triangle. Press edges together first with fingers,  then with a fork.

5. Move to parchment lined baking sheets. Make 3 vent slits with knife.  Brush egg wash over each pie. Then sprinkle with colored sanding sugar, or white granular sugar.

6. Repeat until all is made!

7. Bake 350° for 20-25 min. Crust will be lightly browned.  Serve warm!

8. Optional: Could drizzle basic frosting zigzagged on top as garland. A drizzle of maple syrup would also be delightful.  Garnish with fruit and sausages.

Note: Can last 1 day in container on counter, or 3 days in fridge,  then rewarmed.
